DEA sent its final “Special Registrations for Telemedicine” rule to White House regulatory review (OIRA) on August 25, 2026. The current telemedicine prescribing flexibilities expire December 31, 2026. The final text is not public.

What to do: telehealth organizations prescribing controlled substances should plan for a new DEA registration type that credentialing teams will need to track.
