The credentialing report card, with the rubric in the open.

One published rubric for every credentialing software platform and managed-services CVO we track. Each vendor is judged on the same dimensions, and every score will link to the evidence behind it, so medical groups and health systems can compare what matters before they buy.

Find your fit

Not sure which platform, or which kind of help, fits your practice?

Talk it through with a credentialing specialist. Bring your practice size, payer mix and specialty, and we'll walk through which track fits: software you run yourself, a managed service that runs credentialing for you, or both.

01The leaderboard

Every vendor we track, in two separate lists.

Software and managed services are listed on separate rubrics and never compared head-to-head. Vendors with the most documented capabilities appear first, with documented capability scores and evidence coverage shown separately. Each name links to its profile and cited sources.

Most documented capabilities first.

Track ACredentialing Software Platforms

Default: most capabilities documented as fully or partly supported; ties A–Z. This is not a quality ranking. Unknown and confirmed absent capabilities do not add to this count.

02Two tracks, two rubrics

Software and services are scored separately.

A platform your team runs in-house and a managed service that runs credentialing for you are different purchases. We score them on separate rubrics and never rank one against the other.

Track A · Software

Software Platforms

Scored on what your team operates: verification and enrollment automation, monitoring, integrations, data management and ease of use.

Track B · Managed Services

Managed Services

Scored on delivery: the verification and enrollment work done for you, NCQA status as the NCQA directory shows it, pricing transparency, and support.

Never head-to-head. A software score and a managed-services score sit on separate scales. We won't pretend a number in one beats a number in the other. Deciding between the two? Read software vs. a managed service →
03How we grade

18 scored dimensions, published in full.

Every score traces to the rubric and to cited evidence. The weights are fixed and published before any vendor is scored: capability counts for most of the grade, and quality signals carry the rest.

Capability 60%
Quality 40%

Capability measures what a platform or service can do. Quality measures how well it does it: ease of use, support, implementation, security and compliance, value, and pricing transparency.

  1. Primary source verification
  2. Payer enrollment automation
  3. Re-credentialing
  4. License and expirables monitoring
  5. OIG / SAM exclusion monitoring
  6. Privileging
  7. CAQH / DataSpring integration
  8. Provider data management
  9. NPDB queries
  10. Delegated credentialing support
  11. Reporting and analytics
  12. API and integrations
  13. Ease of use
  14. Support quality
  15. Security and compliance (SOC 2, HIPAA, HITRUST, NCQA, KLAS)
  16. Implementation time
  17. Value for money
  18. Pricing transparency

No source, no score. A dimension without cited evidence shows "Not yet verified". Capability scores describe sourced scope; overall ratings also require quality evidence. Read the full methodology →

04The Briefing

What changed in credentialing this quarter.

A dated, sourced briefing on the software, the services and the rules. Each issue covers both tracks, and every item links to where we read it.

The Credentialing Briefing

Published · Covers June 1 to September 22

Our launch issue has thirteen items, each dated and linked to its source. The quarter's biggest structural story is a software company buying a CVO, which blurs the exact line our two tracks draw. We explain how we are handling it below.

Also in this issue
  1. Both tracks

Medallion buys Andros, an NCQA-certified CVO

Terms were not disclosed, and no migration timeline was published. Plans that delegate to Andros should confirm which legal entity will hold the NCQA certification, and for which verification elements.

  2. Services

Certified is not accredited: how to check a CVO's NCQA status

A CVO's marketing and the NCQA directory do not always agree. We record each firm's status straight from the directory: certified (and for how many elements), accredited, scheduled, expired or denied.

  3. Software

MedTrainer adds privileging and board approval

Privilege forms, e-signatures from providers and board members, and board routing now sit inside MedTrainer's credentialing platform. Ambulatory groups that ran a separate tool for privileging can reassess.

  4. Regulation

NPDB will merge its two query services into "NPDB Query"

One-Time Query and Continuous Query become one service on December 4, and Continuous Query enrollments move over in December. Ask your software vendor or CVO whether their NPDB integration is tested against it.

DateVendorChangeWhy
Medallion Software Software workflow sources refreshed; NPDB reduced to partial Current product pages describe platform enrollment, committee and delegation workflows. NPDB monitoring is documented, but ongoing enrollment is not specified; the same partial-support criterion applies across both tracks. Source
MD-Staff Software npdb: scope evidence corrected before capability score publication Reduced to partial: automated NPDB checks are documented, but ongoing enrollment is not established by the cited source. Same criterion applies to all tracks. Source
Modio Health OneView Software privileging and npdb: scope evidence corrected before capability score publication Removed two software assessments that cited the separate XCS managed service. These dimensions are unverified for OneView, not scored zero. Source
Medallion Software psv: scope evidence corrected before capability score publication Software PSV reassessed as partial using product documentation for automated source collection and specialist review; full managed-CVO delivery is not evidence of full software scope. Source

FAQ

Questions buyers ask first

What is the best credentialing software?

It depends on who runs the work. Groups that want to run credentialing in-house need a software platform; teams that want it done for them need a managed service. We list both on published rubrics, and we separate documented capability scores from overall ratings, which require quality evidence.

Who runs Credentialing Scorecard?

Metolius Health, which is listed in our Software and Managed Services tracks. It is scored with the same rubric and the same code as every other vendor.

Can a vendor pay to be listed or ranked higher?

No. Vendors can reply to or correct a listing with a source. No vendor can pay for placement, coverage or removal.

Where do NCQA statuses come from?

From NCQA's own certification directory, never from a vendor's website. We record certified (with the number of verification elements), accredited, scheduled, expired, denied or not listed.

Find your fit

Not sure which track, or which vendor, fits your group?

Talk it through with a credentialing specialist. We'll look at your size, payer mix and timeline, and walk through what to ask the platforms and services on your shortlist.

Credentialing Scorecard is an editorial review and comparison site operated by Metolius Health, which is itself listed in the Software and Managed Services tracks and scored on the same rubric. Our methodology is published in full and scores are source-cited. Vendors can reply to or correct their listings, but no vendor can pay for placement or to have a listing removed. Composite scores appear only once a vendor's evidence meets the published threshold.
